The San Antonio Spurs are at No. 4 among NBA teams in terms of championships and they are not moving past the Celtics or Lakers anytime soon, but their outstanding run during the Tim Duncan era is putting them in a position to become the top franchise in the league in all-time winning percentage in the near future. With L.A. struggling big time, that could actually happen next year.
The Lakers had a 1.4 percent advantage at the beginning of the season. It’s at 0.3 percent now with San Antonio putting together its best regular season ever and L.A. doing the exact opposite.
The Spurs already jumped ahead of the 17-time NBA champion Boston Celtics in 2013-14. If the Lakers don’t turn things around quickly, they will suffer the same fate pretty soon.
