Knicks: Who should stay and who should go?

knicks timeout2

Carmelo Anthony / 2016-17 salary: $24,559,380

The best player on the squad without a question. A player to build a contending team around? That’s not so clear.

Robin Lopez / 2016-17 salary: $13,219,250

One of the best, most active defenders in New York. Good soldier whose contract will look more reasonable with time.

Arron Afflalo / 2016-17 salary: $8,000,000 (player option)

The Knicks were probably sending him a message with his benching late in the season. May get a lot more of that if he decides to opt in.

Jose Manuel Calderon / 2016-17 salary: $7,708,427

Remains a great locker room guy, but at 34 his on-court production is regressing. Knicks need an upgrade at point guard position and Calderon could be the odd man out.

Derrick Williams / 2016-17 salary: $4,598,000 (player option)

With a pretty decent season in New York and the many millions available in free agency, the smart money is on the super athletic Williams opting out.

Kristaps Porzingis / 2016-17 salary: $4,317,720

Hit the rookie wall hard late in the year, but looks like a potential superstar in the NBA based on what we saw early in the season. The physical and technical tools are there.

Kyle O’Quinn / 2016-17 salary: $3,918,750

Very popular in the locker room, a hard worker on the court and a reasonable salary in the books. Looks like a keeper.

Kevin Seraphin / Unresictricted free agent

The social media star has never really put it all together on the court. Finished the season with his worst numbers since his rookie year.

Louis Amundson / Unrestricted free agent

Played a mere 204 minutes this season. Could be looking at his 11th team in the NBA next year.

Lance Thomas / Unrestricted free agent

Knee injury forced him to miss the last month of the season. Did he accomplish enough before that to warrant another contract in New York?

Jerian Grant / 2016-17 salary: $1,643,040

Finished the season strong when given enough minutes to prove what he could do. Must build on that next year. Will probably happen in a Knicks jersey.

Sasha Vujacic / Unrestricted free agent

2015-16 Sasha Vujacic was not nearly as efficient as the one Phil Jackson used to coach in Los Angeles, which makes sense for a 32-year-old guard who had been out of the league for quite some time.

Cleanthony Early / Restricted free agent

Was shot in the leg early in the season and returned late in the year with no time to prove if he really belongs.

Langston Galloway / 2016-17 salary: Restricted free agent

Shot the ball poorly, especially in the second half of the season. Did he show enough growth his sophomore year?

Tony Wroten / 2016-17 salary: $1,050,961

Late-season pickup must needs to get healthy to live up to his mini-LeBron reputation.
